Nice five-star hotel up north...

Finally! Everybody, especially all interns had waited for this special event to come for months. It was time for the Procurement Meeting! The company had organized two days with the entire European procurement department in a little city up north in a lovely five-star hotel and we all were impressed when we finally arrived. After we freshened up (some of us took the advantage to do so in the luxurious swimming pool) we all met for a nice ‘borrel’ before the company dinner. Amusingly, the latter was accompanied by Karaoke, which was hosted by our big boss Rick himself. Continue Reading »

“So San, how is your analysis going? Are you done yet?” Ellen looked over my shoulder and glanced at four A3 Excel sheets that displayed colorful columns filled with price indices, measurements, abbreviations, comments and at least 39 delta signs (indication: ‘change this’). I looked up to her and almost cried: “Ahhh, it’ll never end! There is sooo much information!! It is continuously coming in, needs to be included, taken out, formulas need to be changed and I…” Continue Reading »

Change = Excitement

There is only one thing in life that remains constant; change. It is a fact that is as inevitable as ironic if you think about it. Some of us don’t like changes, especially when they are at a place where they feel comfortable and secure. Others are suspicious of changes and go careful steps like on thin ice. As for me, I am almost ‘über’ curious and therefore am mostly excited when something new is about to happen. What a surprise. Continue Reading »

Der Fischer

Sometimes, on those lazy Sunday afternoons before going to work again on Monday, it is fantastic to cuddle up with a nice cup of tea, put on some relaxing music and dive into your own cultural heritage. As for me, I am a big fan of the German ‘Dichter und Denker’, such as Heinrich Heine, Herman Hesse and Goethe, just to name a few. As a matter of fact, poetry is one of the best ways to relax and drift away from the hectic ‘business’ of daily life. It is important to find your medium of relaxation. ‘Der Fischer’ is mine. Enjoy.

Need Sleep!!

3:33, 4:14, 5:25, 5:43, 5:56, 5:58, 6:00!!! „Noooo!“ Welcome to my ‘insomniatic pre morning sequence’, which is sharply followed by the ‘early morning snooze round sequence’. Ironically, both sequences show characteristics of a certain ‘count-up’ rather than ‘count-down’ nature. Further, they both reflect a major difficulty that everybody faces in the early morning hours: Getting up! Continue Reading »

Ahhhh, answer my question!! Arrrgghhh!!

Ah, doesn’t this sound familiar? You really want crucial information from a friend, i.e. the name of an article you could use for your thesis, but s/he keeps forgetting to look it up for you. What do you do in such a case? Sure, you ask for it once, maybe twice. When asking for it for the fifth time, you can’t deny feeling a tiny bit annoyed. And you will certainly have transformed this initially one-sided annoyance into a burning mutual feeling by the time you have posed your question 13 times.

 Well, at least you are dealing with a ‘friend’, so sooner or later you should get an answer. Now, what if you are dealing with someone outside your friendship circle, let’s say a client? Continue Reading »
